The Development of Regression Models for Preliminary Prediction of Road Construction Duration
Ibrahim Mahamid

Abstract:
This study aims at developing mathematical models for preliminary prediction of road construction duration using multiple regression techniques, based on 112 sets of data collected in the West Bank in Palestine. 5 regression models are developed to estimate the road construction duration in working days; 3 of them include bid quantities as input variables and 2 include road length and road width. The findings indicate that the coefficient of multiple determination (R square) of the developed models is ranging from 0.88 to 0.93 which confirms a good correlation between dependent and independent variables. The value of the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of the developed regression models is ranging from 19.1% to 31.4%. As the developed models are early phases ones, considerations were given to the fact that the input data could be easily extracted from sketches or scope definition of the projects.
