Water Economics of North Kordofan (Balanced Water Supply and Demand) 2014
Dr. Howyda el-Tahir Hassan Taha

Abstract:
Population growth, migration, and exodus from the countryside and neighboring states have a major role in weak and scarce water supplies. The main hypothesis that has been proven due to increased consumption and demand for water supplies will be greater than what is available for use. The researcher relied on the analytical approach to balance the water supply and demand in the state in order to determine the water gap and analyze the strengths and weaknesses. The researcher concluded that the state abounds with large surface or groundwater resources, but these resources suffer from many weaknesses as a result of the state's fragile environment, the nature of the land and the climate, and poor water management as a resource. It is represented by natural factors and human and animal interventions, which leads to the deterioration of these resources. The researcher recommended the application of the economic value of water to reduce waste in the use of drinking water by setting an appropriate pricing covering the cost taking into account the conditions of low-income people. And provide incentives for water saving. As for water pricing for industrial purposes, it is assumed that the cost should be fully covered by the quality of the water supply, a review of agricultural sector policies, especially in terms of their impact on water consumption, the use of modern irrigation techniques and the expansion of the use of treated water.
