Abstract:
Vitamin C is an important component of diet. It has been found to help in healing of wounds, ulcers, trauma and burns, in allergic conditions, common cold and during labor. Deficiency of vitamin C has an important impact on gingival and periodontal health. The aim is to review the concepts of effects of vitamin C deficiency and current methods available for the detection of vitamin C deficiency. Analysis of literature indicates that the microscopic signs of vitamin C deficiency are quite different from those that occur in plaque induced periodontal disease in humans.
