Abstract:
Encephalocele is a rare birth defect that is defined as a hernia of the brain tissue and / or meninges through dehiscence of the skull. It is an abnormality of the closing of the neural tube (AFTN) like anencephaly and spina bifida, which represents about 10-20% of all craniospinal dysraphisms. Its incidence varies by geographic location and race, with an overall incidence of 0.8 to 3 per 10,000 live births. We report 02 cases of occipital encephalocele in order to underline the contribution of imaging and in particular of ultrasound in the diagnosis of this malformation.
