Abstract:
What are the factors on which the managers of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) considered before granting loan to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)? Indeed, nowadays, SMEs operating in Sub-Saharan Africa face adversities related to their financing. In Cameroon, although the emergence of MFIs seemed to be a solution to this problem, it is regrettable that some SMEs obtain financing while others do not. As a result, this study crystallizes around a reflection on the impact of the characteristics of the SME manager/promoter on access to financing. Using binary logistic regression on a sample of 213 SMEs, we tested the influence of two factors (socio-demographic factors and socio-cultural factors) that predict access to financing. In the analyses, six out of seven variables significantly explained this phenomenon. In fact, gender, level of education, age, type of survival training, experience and region of origin of SME managers/promoters increase their probability of obtaining financial support from MFIs.
