Abstract:
The study assessed the surface water quality of Woji River, Niger Delta of Nigeria, in order to determine the water quality index, water samples were collected at six sampling points of the River. The result revealed that the Physicochemical and heavy metals parameters exceeded the WHO and NSDWQ recommended permissible limit except for EC, Zinc, Chromium and Mercury that were within the acceptable limit. The water quality index scores of the selected locations of the surface water is bad to very bad quality of water samples, thus, Woji Abattoir (SS5) and Okwujagwu (SS6) locations were observed to be more polluted. The study recommends a consistent monitoring of anthropogenic activities around the surface water by relevant agencies.
