B.E. Kooffreh , Melody Bassey Irem Aboh Pascal Bekongfe

Abstract:
This paper looks at the challenges of the Nigerian Consumer and remedies to Consumer Problems in Nigeria. It examines the need to protect the Nigerian consumer in an ideal economy situation and explore various redress mechanisms the consumer will have to legally enforce his rights without hindrances. The point that must be made of the protection of the Nigerian consumer is that there is a serious imbalance in the power relations and conflict of interest between the Nigerian consumers, the producers and the suppliers of goods. These imbalances, which essentially operate to the detriment of the consumers, ought to be redressed through the intervention of the law and through conscious and concrete regulatory effort by the state.
