Islamic Education in National Education Policy of Indonesia

Abstract:
Islamic education has an important role and position in the National Education Policy as stated in Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System: "National education functions to develop capabilities and shape the character and civilization of a nation with dignity in order to educate the nation's life, aiming to develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe in and fear God Almighty, have noble character, healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens."Therefore, the state is obliged to develop Islamic education system for the Moslem community. In practice, Islamic education as a religious education system is implemented into two types, informal and non-formal.
