Abstract:
: This study was intended to analyze and provide a portrait of harassment situations and perceptions in the academic environment. It focused exclusively on the various representations, manifestations, policies and recommendations to counter the suffering and consequences of this scourge in Congolese academia. Therefore, it formally addressed the acts and effects of harassment; demonstrate the context in which it takes place; Identify issues related to its disclosure and denunciation; Demonstrate social perception and adherence to certain associated beliefs and myths and definitely, Propose some possible solutions to counter the undesirable effects of harassment in the university environment. In addition, the present study opted for a prospective and empirical approach based on the survey technique and using an online questionnaire on a sample of the occasional type of 1,500 participants randomly distributed over six major provinces of the DRC (North Kivu, South Kivu, Maniema, Haut-Katanga, Tshopo, and Kinshasa) and 23 major Congolese universities ... After analyzing, interpreting and discussing the results based on four themes (sexual harassment, sexual coercion, unwanted sexual behavior and cyberharassment), the present study suggests that harassment in academic settings is not only a source of multiple sufferings with various expressions that can very durably damage the fate of the victim, but also a sign of a suffering in the intersubjective and intrapsychical links specific to the harassed and/or harasser. And as a result, it is changing people's lives from well-being to well-being, and sometimes from life to death.
