Abstract:
Purulent pleurisy or pyothorax, is the presence in the pleural space of a thick sometimes fetid purulent liquid containing a majorityof altered neutrophils with germs on direct examination.Serval etiologies are incriminated in the apperance of pyothorax, pleuropulmonary tuberulosis remains the most frequent etiology in our context. Surgery remains the only effective treatment, the choice of surgical technique varies according to the etiology, the evolutionary stage, the quality of the underlying parenchyma and the terrain on which the infcetion occurs. Preoperative preparation plays an important role in reducing the morbidity and mortality of this pathology.
