Abstract:
: intraprosthetic dislocation is a troublesome and specific complication induced by the loss of the polyethylene retentive rim and the leakage of the femoral head from the polyethylene liner. The rates found in the literature vary from 0.2% to 7% after total hip arthroplasty and up to more than 10% after revision arthroplasty. The clinical diagnosis is difficult because the patient is able to walk with direct support of the head in the cup, which can damage the articular surface of the cup and radiologically by an eccentricity of the head, with direct contact between the two parts. A CT scan can also be requested in case of an inconclusive X-ray. The only treatment for IPD is revision surgery with replacement of the dual mobility cup. Revision is necessary and it is recommended to change the metal cup in case of injury to the articular surface. The prognosis is good with resolution of the problem.
