Abstract:
The study focused on the need for community participation in human rights and development. The objectives of the study were; to find out how human rights and development are promoted in Katovu Town Council, to find out the role played by the community in promotion of human rights and development and to find out the relationship between human rights, community participation and development. The study employed descriptive, explanatory and cross-sectional research designs. The study was carried out in Katovu Town Council. Both primary and secondary data was collected from the community and existing journals as well as management reports. The findings revealed that community participation is vital for human rights protection and development. It also reveals that human rights information is stumpy at the sub county. It was revealed that there is a positive relationship between human rights, community participation and development and therefore officials and the community should consider community participation to protect human rights and development in Katovu Town Council.
