Abstract:
The pseudomyxoma peritonei is a clinical entity characterized by gelatinous ascites associated with mucinous deposits scattered on the peritoneum and potentially invading abdominal organs. It is considered a tumor-related process in the vast majority of cases, mostly linked to a mucinous appendiceal tumor. Pseudomyxoma therapy is based on complete cytoreductive surgery combined with intraperitoneal chemotherapy, allowing a significant improvement in prognosis. As pseudomyxoma belongs to rare tumors, its pathophysiology, anatomopathological aspect, and clinical presentation require management in a specialized care structure. Various histopronostic classifications exist, with the most recent being the WHO 2010 classification, which distinguishes peritoneal mucinous carcinomas into low and high-grade types. We report a case received in our department.
