Abstract:
This study aims to determine students' perceptions of the effectiveness of online teaching of consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting and sight translation. With this objective in mind, a qualitative method was employed, combining participant observation and semi-structured interviews for data collection. The data collected was transcribed for analysis. The results reveal that, according to the participants, face-to-face teaching differs from online teaching in terms of the physical presence of both the teacher and the student during face-to-face lessons, with face-to-face pressure management preparing the student better for the exam than online courses. Online teaching differs from face-to-face teaching in that the pressure is less felt by the student, due to the distance separating the student from the teacher, the student's good faith and the problems associated with the virtual teaching environment. Furthermore, the results also show that online courses offer advantages such as mastery of the functionalities of interpretation applications like Zoom, and preparation for the market. Disadvantages include network instability and power cuts, and the physical absence of the teacher. Student interaction, motivation and concentration are not at their best in online courses. Finally, the results reveal that online courses have a negative impact on improving students' skills.
