Abstract:
The aim of the research is to identify the effectiveness of a behavioral program for developing some social skills for a sample of intellectually disabled children who are able to learn in the classroom at the Wider Horizons Institute for People with Special Needs in Atbara - River Nile State. The number of them reached (16) children aged from (8-16) years, and their IQ ranged between (50-70). The researchers used the social skills scale in favor of Haroun (1996), as well as the behavioral program prepared by the researchers. Then, the researchers used Applied Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to process the data statistically. The research reached a set of results: There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of intellectually disabled children who are able to learn in the classroom and the experimental group on the social skills assessment scale between the pre and post measurements. There are statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the pre and post measurements of the control sample on the scale of estimating the social skills of children with intellectual disabilities who are able to learn in the classroom. There are differences between the mean scores of the control and experimental groups in the post-measurement on the social skills assessment scale after applying the behavioral program. The research concluded with a number of recommendations, the most important of which was supporting behavioral programs designed to modify the behavior of intellectually disabled children who are able to learn materially and morally by both governmental and private agencies.
