Abstract:
The Knowledge-Based System for Diagnosing Breast Cancer is a comprehensive educational tool designed to assist medical students in enhancing their knowledge and skills related to the diagnosis and counseling of breast cancer. Its primary goal is to provide support and guidance to students as they learn about various aspects of breast cancer, including the analysis of biopsy images, determination of tumor type, selection of appropriate treatment methods, and identification of disease-related questions. Based on the Ministry of Health's annual report in Gaza, the prevalence of breast cancer has been a significant concern, with a total of 7,069 cases recorded between 2009 and 2014, and 1,502 cases reported in 2014 alone. Recognizing the importance of visual information in the learning process, especially for the 65% of individuals who are visual learners, the Knowledge-Based System offers an effective approach to promote long-term information retention by incorporating visual and textual resources. One of the key features of the system is its user-friendly interface, which allows students to engage with the material and expand their understanding of breast cancer diagnosis. Moreover, the system is easily accessible through smartphones, enabling students to learn anytime and anywhere. The Knowledge-Based System consists of three primary components. Firstly, it provides specific patient-oriented questions that guide students through the questioning process, helping them gain familiarity with the necessary inquiries to make an accurate diagnosis. Secondly, it enables the analysis of biopsy sample images, allowing students to assess their integrity and identify potential infections or abnormalities. This feature enhances students' ability to interpret microscopic images effectively. Lastly, the system incorporates animated videos that showcase various approaches for treating breast cancer, providing students with a visual representation of treatment methods and their effects. In summary, the Knowledge-Based System for Diagnosing Breast Cancer is a comprehensive educational tool that supports medical students in their quest to acquire in-depth knowledge of breast cancer diagnosis and counseling. Through its user-friendly interface, access via smartphones, and incorporation of visual and textual resources, the system aims to improve information retention and facilitate a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Its components, including patient-oriented questioning, analysis of biopsy sample images, and animated treatment videos, contribute to a well-rounded learning experience.
