Abstract:
: The ankle is a complex trochlear articulation sustaining a three-dimensional strength and enormous mechanical contraint, sensitive to the slightest anatomical anomaly. The ankle arthrodesis remains the treatment of choice in severe articular injury in order to restore perfect indolence and good stability. The purposes of our study are to search the epidemiological profile and evaluate the long term functional results and the repercussions on the subtalar and mediotarsal joints as well as on the foot static. We report a retrospective study of 25 cases of ankle arthrodesis performed in the trauma-orthopedic department B3 of the Hassan II Fez University Hospital in Fes, spreading out from 1 January 2012 to 30 June 2020. The average age of our patients was 38,4 years (17-60years) .Right ankle was operated on in 21cases (80%) and the left in 4 cases (20%). The etiologies were mainly dominated by the post-traumatic causes in 11 cases 44%.The treatment consisted of a talocrural arthrodesis by MEARY technic in 20 of our patients 80% .Achieving a talocrural arthrodesis seems to improve pain and function, and allows the patient to regain their independence but it is a delicate procedure because it requires proper orientation of the foot in the three spatial axes.
