Abstract:
: Heterotopic pregnancy is the combination of an intrauterine pregnancy and an extrauterine pregnancy, regardless of location. The incidence of heterotopic pregnancy is rising sharply with advancing age, the frequency of upper genital tract infections and the increasing use of assisted reproduction. Diagnosis remains difficult, due to its confusing symptomatology. Pelvic ultrasound is the key complementary examination for making the diagnosis. Treatment of heterotopic pregnancies aims to eliminate the ectopic pregnancy while preserving the intrauterine pregnancy as far as possible, and to limit the risk of recurrence. Maternal prognosis is comparable to that of simple ectopic pregnancies. We report the observation of a 30-year-old woman, with no notion of medically assisted procreation, who was admitted to the emergency department with isolated pelvic pain. The diagnosis of heterotopic pregnancy was confirmed on ultrasound. Our patient underwent laparoscopic salpingectomy. The evolution was marked by the occurrence of a spontaneous miscarriage 10 days later.
