Abstract:
The present study, entitled "The importance of translation in tourism in Benin", addresses the problem of difficult communication between foreign tourists and local residents. To fill this gap, two objectives were set, namely (1) to ascertain whether there is a need for translation in Benin's tourism sector (2) and to list the reasons for the need for translation in Benin's tourism sector. In order to carry out our study, we used an exploratory research methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected from translators specialising in tourism in Benin, using a questionnaire administered via Google Forms. The data was processed and analysed using IBM SPSS 21 software. According to the results obtained, there is a need for translation in Benin's tourism sector. However, translation could help to communicate with foreign visitors by making tourist information easier to understand, encouraging cultural exchange between tourists and locals, reinforcing Benin's image as a welcoming tourist destination and helping to promote tourist attractions and services, all of which could help to improve the overall tourism experience in Benin. This could help to improve the overall tourism experience in Benin.
