Abstract:
The research investigated entrepreneurial intention and innovation of small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) in Rivers State. The study adopted a cross-sectional research approach. 270 small and medium-sized firms make up the study's population. The Krejcie and Morgan sampling approach was utilized to produce a sample size of 159 SMEs in Rivers State. A questionnaire was employed for data collection while a regression analysis was undertaken to evaluate the connection between entrepreneurial intention and innovation. The result shows a significant association between entrepreneurial intention and innovation. The study concluded that entrepreneurial intention is a crucial predictor of innovation of SMEs in Rivers State. Based on this conclusion, the study recommended that SME owners should develop entrepreneurial intention to achieve innovation. This could be done through investing in education and training programs that build skills and knowledge, share success stories, supporting innovative ideas, improve access to resources, and create collaborative networks to improve innovation. They should also collaborate with financial institutions, government entities, and industry organizations to gain support that will improve innovation.
