Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between domestic violence on socio-economic development of women in Kashari County, Mbarara district. Specifically, the study aimed at; examining the relationship between physical violence, social violence, psychological violence and socio-economic development of women A DESCRIPTIVE CORRELATIONAL AND CROSS-SECTIONAL SURVEY DESIGN WAS USED following a quantitative paradigm to establish the relationship between domestic violence on socio-economic development. The target population comprised of 132,961 women in Kashari County (UBOS, 2022). A sample size of 384 respondents was selected using the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table for determining sample size for research activities, for any given population. Simple random sampling was used. Mainly primary data sources were used to obtain data from the field using questionnaires. The findings indicate: the p- value of 0.000 that is less than the alpha level of significance of 0.05 which implies that there is a significant correlation. The r value of 0.383 reveals that a positive relationship exists between Physical Violence and Socio-Economic Development. The findings revealed that the p-value = 0.00, that is less than the alpha level of significance of 0.05 which implies that there is a significant relationship between social violence and socio-economic development. The r value of 0.619 reveals that a positive relationship exists between social violence and socio-economic development, and finally the Pearson correlation (r=0.795, P=.000), revealed a positive significant relationship between psychological violence and socio-economic development. The study concluded that the is a positive significant relation between all the three-predictor variable: Physical Violence, social violence, psychological violence and Socio-Economic Development of women in Kashari county.
