Abstract:
: Leadership and communication are deeply interconnected and vital for effective organizational administration at all levels. Recognizing the detrimental effect of entrenched silos on effective information flow, knowledge sharing, and collaborative ties among organizational departments, in this study therefore, I assessed the impact of communication silos on leadership communication effectiveness within the Delta State Ministry of Education, Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. Utilizing a cross-sectional research design, data were elicited from 251 selected senior personnel of the ministry via a self-structured and validated questionnaire with the Cronbach Alpha reliability test, achieving an 86.3% response rate. For the purpose of data examination, the study employed both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, and the test of hypothesis was at the 0.05 significance level. The results suggest that the majority of the sampled employees have wealth of experience, with a significant number also holding advanced qualifications and certificates, showing a well-constituted workforce with employee training and development opportunities. However, the presence of silos was found to negatively correlate with leadership effectiveness, suggesting that these barriers hamper the ministry's ability to achieve objectives efficiently. The study underscores the need for strategic interventions to bust these silos so as to enhance effective communication pathways in the ministry. Recommendations for enhancing leadership development, cross-departmental collaboration, and communication strategies are provided to foster effective leadership functions. In a world of rapid workforce expansion and sophistication, effective leadership communication is vital for inclusiveness.
