Abstract:
Multicultural education has become an urgent need in an increasingly diverse society. In Indonesia, especially in Bali, there is a local teaching rich in multicultural values, namely Tri Hita Karana. This teaching emphasizes three main aspects: harmonious relationships between humans and God, humans with one another, and humans with the environment. SMP PGRI 8 Denpasar, as an educational institution, has the responsibility to integrate these values into the educational process to build a character in students that is tolerant, ethical, and environmentally conscious. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included the school principal, teachers, and students at SMP PGRI 8 Denpasar. The data analysis technique used is thematic analysis, aimed at identifying the main themes emerging from the collected data. The results show that the implementation of multicultural education based on the teachings of Tri Hita Karana at SMP PGRI 8 Denpasar is effective in building student character. The integration of Tri Hita Karana teachings into the curriculum and extracurricular activities has increased students' awareness of the importance of harmony among peers, respect for God, and concern for the environment. Students have become more tolerant of cultural differences, more respectful, and exhibit more environmentally friendly behavior. Programs based on these teachings have also received positive responses from teachers and parents, who have noticed positive changes in their children's attitudes and behavior.
