Abstract:
The inadequate management of workforce diversity in organizations necessitated this study to empirically look at the Deposit Money Banks in Delta State with a bid to ascertain the extent of the relationship that exists between workplace diversity and performance. The study specifically examined the influence of gender diversity on employee commitment. The research used a descriptive survey design and the study population comprised 353 employees from 16 purposively selected Deposit Money Banks in Asaba, Delta State and complete enumeration was utilized. The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire that underwent validity and reliability testing to assure measurement uniformity and accuracy. The collected data were analysed utilising descriptive (frequencies, percentages, and mean) and inferential statistics (linear regression analysis), with hypotheses evaluated at a 5% significance level. Findings revealed that gender diversity and employee commitment have a positive relationship (R = 0.929) and that an 86% change in employee commitment is accounted for by changes in gender diversity (R2 = 0.863), hence the null hypothesis was rejected and accepted, therefore, concluding that gender diversity has a significant influence on employee commitment in banks in Delta State. The study concluded that advocating for gender diversity is both an ethical obligation and a strategic benefit for improving staff stability and commitment. Among others, it was recommended that employment in the banks should not be based on gender, but rather, on competence and commitment to deliver quality service.
