Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Early Reading Activities (ERA) Program in improving the reading ability of Grade Two learners at Paradise Elementary School, Cabanglasan II District. A quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was employed. Two research questions guided the study: (1) What are the pre-reading and post-reading abilities of Grade Two learners before and after implementing the ERA Program? and (2) Is there a significant difference in learners' reading ability before and after using the ERA Program? Data were collected from pre-reading and post-reading test results of ERA activities. The results showed a statistically significant mean difference of -10.400, indicating a notable improvement in reading ability. Paired sample t-test analysis revealed significant differences between pre- (M = 10.68, SD = 4.385) and post-intervention scores (M = 21.08, SD = 1.754) at the 0.05 significance level (t(24) = -13.981, n = 25, p < 0.001, 95% CI). These findings suggest that the ERA Program is effective in enhancing the reading ability of Grade Two learners.
