Abstract:
This study examined workplace ergonomics and service delivery in selected public health institutions in South East, Nigeria, 2010 - 2023. The objectives of the study were to examine the relationship between skilled manpower and prompt healthcare service delivery in selected public health institutions in South East, Nigeria, and to ascertain the relationship between availability of medical equipment and effectiveness in healthcare service delivery in selected public health institutions in South East, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study informed the research questions and hypotheses. Relevant literature was thoroughly reviewed and the study was anchored on human factor theory by Dr. Russel Ferrel. Data were collected from a population of 378 respondents. The data collected were presented using simple percentage and mean scores, while the hypotheses were tested using Pearson correlation statistical tool. The study found out that skilled manpower has a significant positive relationship with prompt healthcare service delivery. From the findings, the study recommended among others that the government at all levels should set up a Medical Intervention Fund, like the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). Just as the National Health Insurance Scheme that provides citizens with access to healthcare services, the proposed Medical Intervention Fund will help with the procurement of equipment, medical research, staff training and capacity building in the health sector in order for the public health system to be better positioned to serve the public.
