Abstract:
Coarctation of the aorta is a common congenital vascular malformation that is a congenital constriction of the aortic isthmus, the segment of the aorta between the left subclavian artery and the ductus arteriosus. Extracardiac anomalies associated with coarctation of the aorta are relatively common. Thanks to a three-dimensional and multiplanar exploration, CT (computed tomography) allows, in addition to echocardiography, to establish a pre-therapeutic assessment of the main malformative pathologies especially for the detection of associated extracardiac vascular anomalies. It tends to replace angiography in many malformative pathologies for several reasons: it is less invasive; it offers a 3D image of excellent quality useful to the surgeon; it establishes the anatomical diagnosis, appreciates the tracheal compression and makes the assessment of possible associated malformations and also guides the surgical treatment
