Abstract:
: The management of displaced 3- and 4-part fractures/fracture-luxations of the proximal humerus in elderly patients over 65 years of age is still a topical issue. Even if the functional demands of this category are reduced, recovering a painless and mobile shoulder remains a therapeutic imperative. This work is a retrospective study concerning 35 elderly patients, carried out within the department of traumatological and orthopedic surgery (A) of the Hassan II University Hospital of Fez, treated for fracture of the proximal end of the humerus by total prosthesis of the shoulder. reversed between 2013 and 2020, of which The average age of our patients at the time of the intervention was 71 years, with extremes of 60 years and 83 years, with a clear female predominance 23 women or (66%), and 12 men is (34%). After an average follow-up of 26.3 months, a clinical and radiological evaluation was carried out. Over 80% of patients were very satisfied, one patient was not satisfied due to septic loosening, and the remainder were satisfied. RTSA has revolutionized the results of the treatment of fractures of the proximal humerus in the elderly. Technical requirements are necessary to ensure the longevity of the implant without complications. Advances in biomedical engineering have allowed the development of implants with stems dedicated to fractures of the proximal humerus.
