Abstract:
The diagnosis of acrania through ultrasound is a specific topic that involves the use of ultrasound imaging to identify the absence of bone formation in the fetus's skull, a condition that can be observed as early as the first trimester of pregnancy. Acrania is often confused with other craniofacial anomalies, such as anencephaly, but it is distinguished by the absence of the cranial vault with the presence of brain structures. The diagnosis of acrania has significant implications for prenatal care and decisions regarding the pregnancy. It is associated with a very unfavorable prognosis, and parents may face difficult decisions regarding the continuation of the pregnancy. Ultrasound is an essential diagnostic tool for the early identification of acrania, allowing healthcare professionals and parents to be better informed and prepared. Although the diagnosis of acrania carries a grim prognosis, early detection through ultrasound plays a crucial role in pregnancy management.
