Abstract:
: Tuberculosis is a treatable infectious disease that can sometimes present in a misleading manner, mimicking pelvic cancer. This similarity can lead to extensive and unnecessary surgical interventions. In this report, we describe the case of a 74-year-old patient initially suspected of suffering from ovarian cancer, who underwent exploratory laparotomy revealing a tuberculous psoas abscess. This case underscores the importance of suspecting and systematically investigating a tuberculous origin in endemic areas, especially for chronic, recurrent, or antibiotic-resistant psoas abscesses. It raises important questions regarding surveillance and management of pelvic masses in women, particularly in regions where tuberculosis is endemic. It highlights the importance of meticulous clinical evaluation and rigorous diagnostic approach to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions and optimize therapeutic outcomes.
