Abstract:
A large literature considers military spending a determining factor for economic growth. Little effort has been made to find this link to inequality. This study breaks the ice by exploring the link between military spending, inequality and economic growth by applying the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) technique during the period from 1972 to 2016. Using Harrod's technologically augmented Solow growth model, the study finds a positive link between military spending and growth. Inequality is found to be negatively associated with growth. The study also lists some policy implications.
