Abstract:
Metaplastic breast carcinomas are rare and form a heterogeneous group of tumors, defined by the presence of squamous or sarcomatoid differentiation. This is a group clearly identified by the WHO, representing less than 1% of invasive breast cancers. This tumor group is heterogeneous and can be purely epithelial such as squamous cell carcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma and adenocarcinoma with spindle cell differentiation, or mixed with dual epithelial and mesenchymal components. The mesenchymal contingent can be either cartilaginous or osseous. Histopathology combined with immunohistochemistry allows a diagnosis to be made treatment combines surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy it is a rare and aggressive subtype of invasive breast carcinoma, characterized by rapid growth, a relatively large tumor and a tendency to metastasize to distant organs, especially the lungs with involvement of axillary lymph nodes is relatively rare, hence its gloomy prognosis. We report an exceptional case of a metaplastic carcinoma of the breast with bone and cartilaginous differentiation in a young patient of 35 years old, with no history having progressed apocalyptically under treatment. Through this observation and a review of the literature, the anatomo-clinical, radiological, therapeutic and evolutionary characteristics will be discussed.
