Abstract:
: Although morbidity and mortality rates still remain high in developing countries, improvements in the care of sickle cell patients over the last 20 years have led to improvements in life expectancy for life quality. Pregnancy is no longer recommended for women with sickle cell disease. However, it remains a high-risk situation for the woman and her fetus. Maternal complications during pregnancy may depend on sickle cell disease, but may also be linked to the pregnancy itself. To do this, patients must be informed and educated regarding their possibility of pregnancy and its management by experts in high-risk pregnancy and sickle cell disease. Early and regular treatment in a specialized center specializing in obstetric monitoring is necessary. The delivery must take place in a level 3 maternity ward and the monthly follow-up must follow a multidisciplinary approach with a complete care plan ideally extending from conception to the postnatal period which remains a period at risk of complications. We report the cases that we followed at the gynecology-obstetrics department 2 within the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez and which required close monitoring and special care.
