Abstract:
The classic Demons-Meigs syndrome combines a fibrothecal tumor of the ovary, a hydrothorax, and an ascites. These two effusions disappear dramatically after the removal of the tumor. The physiopathology remains poorly understood. We report an observation of Demons-Meigs syndrome in a 60-year-old patient with a history of recurrent pleurisy who consulted for abdominal-pelvic pain. An ovarian mass and an ascites were discovered during examination. Surgical exploration revealed ascites without suspicious peritoneal lesions, along with a large ovarian fibroma measuring 12 cm. A hysterectomy with bilateral annexectomy was performed. Resection of the benign fibrothecoma was followed by the improvement off all symptoms . Through our case, and a literature review, we will discuss the clinical and therapeutic characteristics of this entity, which can lead to confusion with a malignant ovarian tumor
