Abstract:
The aim of this study was to discuss the influence of stress-relief temperature and full annealing temperature toward the calculated shear yield strength and ultimate shear strength of AISI 4140 alloy steel. Two types of heat-treating were applied in this study. The first heat-treating was stress-relief at temperature of 500 0C, 600 0C and 660 0C; the second heat-treating was full annealing at temperature of 800 0C, 860 0C and 900 0C. It was found that the shear yield strength and ultimate shear strength decreased with increasing stress-relief temperature from 500 0C to 660 0C. The shear yield strength and ultimate shear strength decreased as full annealing temperature increased from 800 0C to 8600C, and then increased with increasing full annealing temperature from 860 0C to 900 0C.
