Abstract:
The aim of this article is to analyse the likely effects of a common currency on trade within ECCAS using the gravity model. Our estimations show that a common currency has positive effects on the intensification of trade in the sub-region. In addition, the size of the economies and the one of the population have significant effects on the expansion of trade. However, natural geographical factors and political instability are holding back trade and reducing the well-being of the population in ECCAS.
