Abstract:
The study investigated the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding biosecurity precautions and HACCP among workers producing pork meat in Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State. A survey research design was adopted for the study. The instrument used to collect data for the study was a questionnaire. The socio-economic characteristics of the respondents were analyzed using frequency and percentage, the research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation and ANOVA was used to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed among others that workers producing pork meat have low knowledge regarding Biosecurity Precautions and HACCP in Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State. It was also found that workers producing pork meat engage in low practices of Biosecurity Precautions and HACCP in Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State. Further results showed that there is no significant difference between the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents and their perception of the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding biosecurity precautions and HACCP among workers producing pork meat in Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that extension workers and veterinary experts should pay regular visits to pork meat producers to share technical advice and information on Biosecurity Precautions and HACCP in Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State.
