Abstract:
This article examines the impact of intellectual property rights (IPRs) on regional integration in Africa, highlighting both opportunities and challenges. While IPRs can foster innovation, creativity, and economic growth, their inadequate protection and utilization can hinder regional integration efforts. The article explores the roles of regional organizations such as ARIPO and OAPI in harmonizing IPR laws and promoting innovation, and discusses the need to balance IPRs with public interests in access to knowledge, education, and healthcare. The article concludes by recommending strategies for maximizing the benefits of IPRs in regional integration and promoting economic and cultural development in Africa.
