Abstract:
Information technologies (IT) plays an important role in shaping contemporary entrepreneurship by enhancing operational efficiency, expanding market reach, and encouraging innovation. This study examined the impact of IT on entrepreneurial activities in Iringa Municipal, Tanzania, focusing on how IT adoption influenced various aspects of business performance and innovation. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with entrepreneurs, the study investigated the current state of IT adoption, its perceived benefits, and the challenges faced by businesses in leveraging IT solutions. Findings revealed that a significant number of businesses in Iringa Municipal have integrated IT into their operations, with varying degrees of adoption across sectors. Businesses reported improvements in operational efficiency through streamlined processes and enhanced decision-making capabilities facilitated by IT tools such as digital marketing, e-commerce platforms, and data analytics. Moreover, IT enabled businesses to expand market reach by penetrating new markets, targeting niche segments, and diversifying geographically. However, challenges such as high costs, technical expertise gaps, and inadequate IT infrastructure hindered broader IT adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Despite these challenges, businesses that have successfully integrated IT solutions demonstrate increased competitiveness and resilience in the local market. Based on the study's findings, recommendations are proposed to enhance IT adoption and effectiveness among entrepreneurs in Iringa Municipal. These include improving access to affordable IT infrastructure, enhancing IT training and support programs, and fostering a supportive ecosystem for innovation and digital entrepreneurship.
