Abstract:
The maritime industry is undergoing a profound transformation driven by digital technologies, necessitating a reevaluation of training and education paradigms to ensure workforce readiness. This study explores the human factors influencing the successful implementation of information systems in maritime training and education. Through qualitative interviews with maritime professionals across various roles and experience levels, the study investigates perceptions of digital transformation readiness, including technological infrastructure, skill enhancement, career advancement, and financial accessibility. Findings revealed a diverse range of experiences and challenges faced by maritime professionals. While participants acknowledged the benefits of training programs in enhancing skills and career prospects, significant barriers such as outdated technological infrastructure and high financial costs hinder accessibility and effectiveness. The study highlighted the importance of aligning training content with industry needs and fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages collaboration and continuous improvement. Recommendations include enhancing practical training components with real-world simulations, aligning training programs closely with industry demands, and expanding financial support options to mitigate cost barriers. Additionally, upgrading technological infrastructure and fostering leadership commitment to digital transformation are essential to improving the efficacy of maritime training and education programs. By addressing these challenges and implementing recommended strategies, maritime training institutions can better prepare professionals for the digital age, ensuring a skilled and adaptable workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the maritime industry.
