Abstract:
This study investigated artificial intelligence and chemistry learning outcomes of senior secondary school students in Warri Metropolis. The researchers adopted a quasi-experimental design. The population of the study was 800 students. A sample of 80 senior secondary students was selected from two intact classes in two schools. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The test items were selected from standardized past questions of West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) which was validated by two lecturers in the department of science education. The instrument used in data collection was Chemistry Performance Test (CPT) developed by the researcher. The reliability coefficient was determined by the Split-half method using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient at 0.78. Mean, standard deviation and Z-test at a 0.05 level of significance were used for data analysis. The result revealed a significant difference in the mean performance scores of students taught using discussion method and those of artificial intelligence. It was then recommended among others that; teachers should include artificial intelligence in teaching methodology content and also make provision to train both teachers and students in the use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
