Abstract:
Over the last two decades, there has been a growing concern in Uganda about having a blended teacher education through an indigenous education context. There increasing dynamics and needs to solve realities in our communities and these calls for a rethinking of teacher education curricula and qualifications. Indeed as Ugandans, we all cherish indigenous education as a catalyst that fuels the acquisition of intellectual power and rethinking of teacher education curricula and learning experiences that rouse knowledge in the society. The article emphasizes the importance of teacher education curricula coupled with indigenous education in Uganda and calls for a rethinking of teacher education curricula. The article suggests a blended approach with indigenous knowledge as the theoretical basis, addressing Ugandan-based realities. The article recommends a local deficient model for teacher education and professional development, aiming to produce Ugandan-based teachers.
