Abstract:
Healthcare administrators must effectively oversee resource management within clinical environments. Effectively managing resources and minimizing waste is crucial for ensuring sustainability in a healthcare setting. However, administrators frequently face challenges in managing constrained resources such as finances, equipment, staffing, and personnel. This systematic literature review explored the practical management strategies that healthcare administrators use to improve resource utilization and minimize waste in urban outpatient clinical settings. A literature search was conducted through PubMed and ScienceDirect, using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Data from the 25 peer-reviewed published articles from 2020 to 2024 were thematically analyzed categorizing statements concerning, management styles, the influence of healthcare settings, the reduction of waste, and optimizing resource utilization regarding answering the research question. The assessment identified four key themes positive management styles (44%), the influence of settings (28%), reducing waste (48%), and optimizing resource utilization (60%). The findings showed that management leadership styles as administrators have a critical role and impact on eliminating waste and optimizing resources in healthcare. The findings indicated that healthcare administrators have a vital role in identifying and implementing effective management strategies to eliminate waste and optimize resource utilization. The results suggested that a perceived positive management style from employees is critical for strategically optimizing patient outcomes, boosting staff morale, and streamlining operations effectively. The implications of these findings provide healthcare administrators and leaders with a better opportunity to help implement actionable strategies to create a positive healthcare environment, enhance communication, data utilization, and teamwork, reduce waste, and optimize resources.
