Abstract:
Mississippi has one of the highest incidence rates of diabetes in the country. A study was conducted on the county with highest rates and the lowest rates of diabetes in Mississippi. While socioeconomic factors have been studied in relation to diabetes, there was a lack of additional information on outside influences. A systematic review was conducted on the different influences on diabetes rates. The study is focused on comparing the effect of insurance status, physician density, and access to prevention programs on the incidence rates between Holmes County and Union County Mississippi. Data was extracted from various governmental sites to provide information in all three areas.
