Abstract:
This present study was aimed to investigate the representation of Pancasila Learner Profile values in an English textbook. A Descriptive Qualitative Research Design was applied in this study. The data was specifically obtained from an eighth-grade English textbook for junior high school students which only focused on its visual content known as a comic strip. The data were collected using a documentation technique involving a coding guideline adopted from Permana and Agusta (2023), which was based on the Pancasila Learner Profile Values issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture. A Content Analysis method was used to analyze the data. The result of this study disclosed that there were three out of six Dimensions of the Pancasila Learner Profile Values found:1)Believing the God Almighty and Having a Noble Character, 2)Mutual Cooperation; and 3)Critical Thinking. Those three were displayed only in eight comic strips out of fifteen ones inside the textbook and were subdivided into five comic strips represented Believing the God Almighty and Having a Noble Character as the most frequent value, followed by two comic strips represented the Mutual Cooperation value, and lastly, one comic strip represented the Critical Thinking value. However, this textbook excluded another three dimensions namely Global diversity, Independent and Creative value in its comic strips. These findings lead to a conclusion that this textbook is in line with the Independent Learning Curriculum's objective to teach character education to the students. The result of this education process is that the students are expected to possess personal morality and awareness of environmental issues.
