Abstract:
This research investigated the opportunities and challenges presented by the adoption of blockchain technology in the financial services industry, with a specific focus on its potential to enhance financial inclusion for underserved populations. The study employed a cross-sectional approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research methods to analyze the potential applications of blockchain technology in various financial sectors, the regulatory and legal implications of its adoption, and its impact on financial inclusion. The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between blockchain adoption and both financial inclusion and access to financial services, suggesting that blockchain technology could play a significant role in expanding financial access for underserved communities. Key areas where blockchain could be leveraged included digital wallets, smart contracts, decentralized finance (DeFi), and tokenization. However, the research also highlighted several challenges associated with blockchain adoption, including regulatory uncertainties, integration with legacy systems, and potential impacts on existing business models. The study concluded that overcoming these challenges through collaborative efforts between governments, regulators, and financial institutions was crucial for unlocking the full potential of blockchain in promoting financial inclusion and fostering greater economic opportunity for all.
