Abstract:
: This study delves into the intricate dynamics of the terrorist landscape in northern Nigeria, focusing on the escalating conflicts between Jama'atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda'Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Through a comprehensive review of existing literature and research findings, the paper analyzes the factors driving these conflicts, assesses their impact on civilian populations, and explores potential strategies for addressing the root causes of terrorism in the region. By employing Social Identity Theory as a theoretical framework, the study elucidates how ethnic tensions, power struggles, and socioeconomic factors contribute to the violence between JAS and ISWAP. It highlights the devastating humanitarian consequences of the clashes, including mass displacements and civilian casualties, underscoring the urgent need for effective counter-terrorism measures and peacebuilding initiatives. The paper concludes with a set of recommendations aimed at promoting inclusive governance, socioeconomic development, and regional cooperation to counter extremism and foster lasting peace and stability in northern Nigeria and the broader West African region.
