Abstract:
Over a decade now there is a growing concern on the drilling oil and gas activities in western Uganda and the entire Albertine Great Lakes Region. The study set out to investigate into the impact of oil and gas activities on the quality of life in Bulisa district, Uganda. It identifies a relationship between drilling, seismic, and infrastructure development activities and the quality (Yau & Chehade, 2023)of life of the residents. The study applied a mixed methodology approach which enabled the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data. The study employed a case study and epistemological stance; total populations of 356 participants were engaged. The findings from the study showed that seismic activities had no major effects on the life of the people while drilling activities. The study concludes highlights the negative impact of oil and gas activities on land use, productivity, and infrastructure development in the region. It suggests adopting exploration policies to improve quality of life, compensating displaced people, and implementing strategies for food security and environmental degradation. It also warns against turning oil and gas activities into a blessing in disguise. The study recommends for appropriate use of resource and sustainability. Recommends for community based engagements in all oil and gas activities in Uganda
