Abstract:
This study investigated the moderating effect of government policies on the relationship between trenches and check dam practices and their contributions to environmental protection. Utilizing a sample of 280 participants, a regression analysis was employed to explore how varying levels of government policy (C) influence the effects of trenches and check dams (TRC) on environmental outcomes, specifically measured by the variable D50. The findings revealed a moderate correlation (R = 0.5873) and explain approximately 34.5% of the variance in D50 (Rē = 0.3450), indicating a statistically significant overall model (p < .0001). While the direct effect of TRC on Environmental protection (D50) was positive, it was statistically significant (p = .004). In contrast, government policy emerged as a significant predictor of Environmental protection (D50) (p < .0001). The interaction between TRC and government policy was marginally significant (p = .0712), suggesting that the effectiveness of TRC practices in enhancing environmental protection may vary depending on the strength of government policies. Conditional effects indicated that at lower and moderate levels of policy intervention, the impact of TRC was negligible; however, a higher level of government policy showed a marginally significant interaction, implying that robust policies may amplify the benefits of trenching and check dams. These results underscore the need for further research to fully understand the implications of policy frameworks on environmental protection strategies.
