Abstract:
This study is on copyright issues in the digital environment: challenges and solutions for libraries. The population of this study are the students of the department of Library and Information Science, Lead City University, Ibadan. A survey research design was used and 120 respondents were selected for the study. The study adopted a questionnaire as a research instrument. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. The result of the study revealed majority of the respondents agreed that digital content licenses may prevent libraries from sharing resources across institutions or limit how they can be shared (X = 2.46, SD = 0.76) and the volatility of digital media, combined with the legal constraints, makes it hard for libraries to ensure long-term access (X = 2.97, SD = 0.93). Findings also showed that as part of solutions that libraries can implement to balance copyright compliance with user needs, libraries can provide access to digital materials under digital rights management systems that enforce copyright restrictions while allowing access (X = 2.88, SD = 0.69). The study recommended that libraries should promote ethical use of digital resources by creating an atmosphere that respects intellectual property while facilitating access to knowledge.
